A day on from the explosion, the group, who are from the same family, remain in Perth Children's Hospital.

After receiving the burns, the three are seen on CCTV footage, running to the nearest front yard to hose themselves down.

Witness Andrea Bennett, said she came to the boys' aide when she heard screaming.

"They were covered in red paint, they were burnt, their hair was singed," she said.

"It still sort of shocks you to come across three little kids in so much pain.

"One little boy asked if I could stop the pain."

Residents called for an ambulance but the boys took off before paramedics arrived, running home to their parents, who also called an ambulance.

On Thursday evening, they remained in a stable condition at hospital.

The boys' grandfather told Nine News Perth he hoped other children could learn a lesson from their misfortune.
