One of the first dogs she helped named Putih, was injured because he was chained to a wall in a small town and his chain kept getting caught.

'I couldn't go every day, so I had to come up with strategies to ensure animals were getting the medicine,' Ms Barber said.

She paid a nearby family, who have since taken Putih in, $5 a week to feed him and ensure he was given his medication for a skin condition he developed.
