With the sharp drop in temperatures, however, the Bureau of Meteorology has issued Severe Weather Warnings for parts of both states that can expect wild winds as part of the cold snap.

From Sydney down to Canberra, Cooma and the state border the BoM has warned of 90km/h damaging wind gusts and the potential for blizzard-like conditions in alpine areas.

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service has also recommended people living or visiting back country areas avoid travelling in the conditions.

Over the weekend, the winds were so intense the Thredbo Top Station recorded a gust of 104km/h.

Meanwhile in Victoria, meteorologists have also predicted winds of up to 90km/h along parts of the western and central coast and the Gippsland region.
