Queensland ambulance supervisor Wayne Paxton said the truck driver pulled the baby from the car before an off-duty critical care paramedic from Cairns arrived.

Two other people in the car with the baby died at the scene. The truck driver suffered minor injuries.

The Bruce Highway remained closed overnight and reopened just after 4am on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a male motorbike rider, believed to be aged in his early 20s, was fighting for life in the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital after a collision with another vehicle.

Critical care paramedics were called to Newmarket Road in Newmarket, in Brisbane's north, just before 6pm on Tuesday and treated the man for severe head injuries before rushing him to hospital.
