Three people were at a home on Cornish Road in Emerald when police say three men forced their way inside about 4.30am on Monday.

One of the intruders then shot a 53-year-old male resident in the leg before fleeing the scene with the other alleged offenders.

The trio ran to a car which was parked on Cornish Road and fled.

Police said three men are dead and two others are in a hospital after a homeowner shot them during a possible home invasion in east Houston. A neighbor told KPRC2 he saw two men with big guns enter the home as others pulled up, so he went inside and then heard gunshots.

The other two people inside at the time - two women aged 21 and 25 - were uninjured. The man who was shot was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police believe the offenders and the victims were known to each other.

They are still trying to establish what, if anything, was stolen.

"The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined and the investigation remains ongoing," a police spokesman said.

The shooter has been described by police as Caucasian in appearance.

In a separate incident, a 20-year-old man was shot out the front of a Reservoir home about 1.30am on Saturday.

The early morning shooting followed a series of attacks linked to the home in the past week, including a drive-by shooting on Tuesday morning.
