He called for those in power to introduce mandatory minimum sentences, saying the issue is a problem for society because 'we keep putting up with it'.

The radio broadcaster's warning on Wednesday came after a spate of incidents over a 24-hour period that resulted in five police officers being attacked.

Constable Jacob Vella, 24, was allegedly stabbed in the neck with a makeshift spear while attending at a home in Sadleir, in southwestern Sydney, on Tuesday morning.

He was rushed to Liverpool Hospital for emergency surgery where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
