Shocking footage has emerged of a McDonald's worker being sprayed in the face with a fire extinguisher during a horrific drive-thru prank.

The woman was working at the Heidelberg store in Melbourne's north east when two cars drove through the drive-thru early at 2am on Saturday.

CCTV footage shows the 21-year-old lean forward out the window as she awaits for the car to roll up before a cloud of white dust explodes in her face.

Her father, Steve Friend told Daily Mail Australia his daughter was lucky she was seriously injured from the prank.

'She could've been blinded,' he said.

'I don't believe using something like fire extinguisher for a prank is a prank. At some point assault isn't a prank. That was clearly assault.

'She was very lucky, stuff like that shouldn't happen.'

Ms Friend has been recovering from a sore throat since the incident.
