On Tuesday, Brisbane magistrate Suzette Coates refused Elboushi bail, saying he had caused "terror" for his young wife, two children and other airport users when he pulled the homemade fake bomb from his suitcase about 9pm.

She said he told Australian Federal Police the bomb contained C4 and he would detonate it unless he was allowed to take his children and travel back to Egypt.

"He told them they would need to evacuate the floor as the device had a blast radius of 500 metres," Ms Coates said.

The court heard Elboushi smuggled the knife and fake bomb into the airport inside his suitcase.

"He then placed his suitcase in the food court and he opened it and removed a knife, which he then placed down his pants," Ms Coates said.

"He removed another device and began chasing his wife and then the wife and children had to run in terror, as did a number of other people at the airport."

Ms Coates said during the incident Elboushi also threatened to stab himself to death in front of his wife and children, and wanted police to shoot him.

A Queensland police officer, who spoke Arabic, helped diffuse the situation, which ended when Elboushi was shot with non-lethal bean bag rounds.

Elboushi was charged with 10 offences, including stealing a number plate from a government vehicle, the serious assault of a police officer, falsely making bomb threats and stalking.

Ms Coates labelled Elboushi's actions "bizarre".

"They are a compelling set of facts as to his belief as to his entitlement to this behaviour, without any regard to any other people, his family, other members of the travelling public," she said.

She refused bail saying there were no conditions that could be imposed to protect Elboushi's family that "would restrain his feeling of narcissistic self-entitlement".

"He is an unacceptable risk."

Elboushi will reappear for a committal hearing on July 22.
