Man feared dead after fire destroys Sydney home An elderly man is missing after a ferocious fire consumed his home in Sydney's eastern suburbs. © 9News A man is feared dead after a fire consumed his Sydney home. Neighbours desperately tried to gain access to the Kensington home to check on the 92-year-old man shortly after the blaze sparked at 2am. They tried to control the fire with garden hoses but were unable to temper the flames and had to wait for firefighters to arrive. Neighbours told Today they had formed a special bond with the man over the years.

Five people have escaped a house that was destroyed by fire in Sydney ' s west . Firefighters were called to the Glenmore Park home just after 2.30am on Saturday and Police said fire investigators are due to examine the scene later on Saturday but the blaze is not believed to be suspicious.

House gutted by fire in Sydney’s west © 9News Emergency services had to evacuate two neighbouring homes after a fierce blaze in Merrylands West this morning. Two people have escaped an intense housefire in Sydney’s west this morning.

Emergency services were called to the property on Fowler Road, Merrylands West just after 5am today and found the top floor of the two-storey house alight.

“There was a lot of difficulty gaining access to the first floor because the staircase had collapsed so we had to pull crews out and go a defensive strategy,” NSW Fire and Rescue’s Joe Zaouk told 9News.

Two neighbouring houses also had to be evacuated as Fire and Rescue tackled the blaze.

Both occupants of the affected house have been accounted for and monitored for smoke inhalation.

Jayden Mamo was a 'very close' friend of 11-year-old Blake who passed away when his house caught fire in Singleton, in New South Wales' Hunter Valley about 3.30 on Wednesday morning. Blake's siblings and mother were also caught in the flames and six-year-old twin sisters Matylda and Scarlett were taken to hospital where they later died. Jayden told Channel 7 he was 'very upset' and 'very heartbroken' a day after losing his dear friend when he returned to the house on Thursday.
