Police say three men forced their way into a Merrylands unit shortly after 7.30pm on Wednesday.

One of the residents, a 30-year-old man, had posted an online phone advertisement and had arranged to meet a man outside the unit.

However, the resident became worried when he saw three males outside and left the unit before the men forced entry, police said.

The intruders assaulted two other residents, a 29-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, with a large spoon from the kitchen.

They stole two phones and a laptop before fleeing.

The injured men were taken to Westmead Hospital suffering concussion. Police are searching for the attackers.
