Progress is slowly being made with Abbie opening her eyes on Friday for the first time since the fall - but many unknowns remain.

'She is still on a respirator… they (her parents) are handling this about as well as can be expected,' she added.

The family friend described Abbie as a 'fighter'.

A GoFundMe has been launched on behalf of Abbie's parents to ease the financial burden in the wake of the accident.

'When she wakes, she will be fighting a big battle to fully recover,' the fundraiser said.
