She said the 15-year-old boy shoulder-charged her after being asked to leave the computer class when he refused to get off his phone.

"I stood my ground, in which case he put his hands together and went 'whack' straight into me, he got me across my body and tore my shoulder," Ms Scarbek said.

Ms Scarbek, who went through months of therapy to re-learn how to walk, said she had gone from being an "eternal optimist" to being on anti-depressants, "trying to get through" on a day-to-day basis.

Her story is just one of many from teachers in A Current Affair's special investigation tonight, who claim that it's not just the students but the education authorities who are the problem.
