Pedestrian killed in hit-run in Melbourne's southeast © 9News Police are looking for a driver after a woman was hit and killed by a car in Clayton last night.

A pedestrian has been killed in a suspected hit-run crash in Melbourne's southeast.

Police say the woman was crossing the road at Wellington Street near Scenic Boulevard in Clayton when she was hit by a dark coloured wagon travelling west just before 10pm last night.

The driver failed to stop.

Police located the car believed to be involved, dumped at a property on North Road, Clayton at about 11pm.

Investigators believe the car was travelling at a high speed prior to the crash and are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or with dashcam footage to come forward.

A crime scene was established at Wellington Road and all westbound lanes remain closed between Blackburn Road and the Princes Highway.

Earthquakes occur frequently in the area, which lies in the eastern slope of the Tibetan plateau.
