Fog is blanketing Adelaide, causing international and domestic flights to be diverted from Adelaide Airport.

The airport confirmed two international and two domestic flights have been diverted to Melbourne, while other planes are in a holding pattern over the city.

Other departures and arrivals appear to be delayed, especially regional flights, according to the airport's website.

Further disruptions were expected this morning.

The northern and western suburbs have been most affected by the fog.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a road weather alert with fog affecting South Road, Salisbury Highway and Port Wakefield Road.

"Reduced visibility in areas of fog will make road conditions dangerous during Tuesday morning," it said.

SA Police have advised people to slow down, take extra care, leave more room between vehicles and turn on their headlights.
