Tonight, A Current Affair investigates the country's waste dilemma, and what everyday people can do to help.

One Melbourne storage yard owner, whose lot is filled with 10,000 tonnes of recycling waste, said the issue should have been addressed earlier.

"Once China started making noises about reducing the amount of waste they were going to take, I think alarm bells should have been going off at high levels at that point," Tasman Logistics Services director Craig Morris said.
