POLICE have called on the public to help identify a man who was found dead on a Gold Coast beach last night. The man was found unconscious at Main Beach about 8.20pm on Wednesday night and was declared deceased a short time later.

Police were notified by an anonymous triple-zero call, which was made from a Surf Life Saving Queensland phone, but lifesavers did not make the call and were not the ones who found the body.

The caller said the body was near the Surfers Paradise Surf Life Saving Club.

The body had been removed from the beach by 10.30am and the stretch of sand was not a crime scene.
