A small Queensland town's bushfire emergency has been intensified by being cut off from telephone services.

The town of Linville, inland from the Sunshine Coast, has a population of just 400 people and has been in the firing line of a fast-moving blaze in recent days, with the threat from the inferno coming within metres of residents' homes.

Despite being moments from disaster, residents have been unable to stay in contact with emergency services because the town is located in a mobile phone blackspot and land line services have been downed.

It has left firefighters and police with no other option than to go door-to-door to evacuate families.

"We were fully expecting a fire front to come over that hill and if it did, with the westerlies behind it, we were in real trouble," Rusty Kraut from the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said.

Resident Alan Kirby told 9News he had been trying for two years to convince the government to fix the mobile black spot.

"I just want them to get off their shiny backsides and do something," he said.

Communications Minister Paul Fletcher said the town would need to apply for coverage under the next round of the Black Spot Program.
