Supt Bray said the couple who owned the house were friends with Ms Chau and there was nothing to suggest they were involved.

"They've certainly co-operated fully in this investigation and done everything they can to help us," he said.

He said Ms Chau had been the victim of a "horrible crime".

"From the very little I know, she's led a blameless life."

Mohammed will return to court on December 13.
