A mother of three, alleged to have been behind the wheel of a car when it crashed, killing her young son and her friend, has told Darwin Local Court she is yet to seek legal advice to face a string of "serious charges".

Andrea Groening, 24, is facing two charges of driving dangerously causing death, as well as driving dangerously causing serious harm, driving with a medium-range blood alcohol content and a prohibited drug in her body.

Her seven-year-old son, Mehali Groening-Pastrikos, and 21-year-old friend Wade Williams were both killed in a collision at the intersection of Tiger Brennan Drive and Berrimah Road in the early hours of May 22.

"We sit down at the cemetery for hours and hours, because he shouldn't be there, he shouldn't be in the cold."

Mehali has been remembered for his love of animals and his "cheekiness".

Mr Williams had three young sons, all aged under five.

His ex-partner, Ashleigh-Taylah Girdler, said he was the "best father any person could want".

"It's not fair, my kids have to grow up without a father," she said.

The court heard the prosecution expected to eventually take the case to the Supreme Court.

Ms Groening will return to Darwin Local Court on November 27, 2019.
