Maaka Hakiwai, 17, died in hospital after he was injured in an altercation in Kings Park, in Melbourne's north-west, on September 28.

Maaka's 18-year-old brother, Nate, was also attacked. He has since been released from hospital.

It is believed Maaka and his brother were set upon by a group in a dispute involving a hat.

Last night Victoria Police charged a second teen, a 17-year-old boy from Hillside, with the same offences.

In a statement released on behalf of the Hakiwai family two weeks ago, Maaka and Nate were described as "not only brothers" but "best friends who did everything together".

"Born less than a year apart the boys were inseparable and loved by all who knew them. Both boys had immense love for their family, were devoted brothers and protectors of their two younger sisters," the statement read.
