The man who was fatally shot during a home invasion south of Brisbane on Monday has been remembered as "a hard-working father" who was "always there" for those who needed him.

Michael Menzel, 48, died from a gunshot wound to his leg at a home in Gleneagle in the Scenic Rim and his 13-year-old daughter watched as paramedics worked to try and save his life.

Friend Rebecca Atkins said she was "really shocked" by the events on "this crazy day".
