Australia Slain Queensland father set upon by four men in 'planned event'

The father who was shot down and died in front of his terrified daughter knew the four men who had broken into the Scenic Rim house, in what police believe was a "planned event".

The intruders, who arrived at the home in a dark-coloured ute with no registration plates, are believed to have confronted and argued with the man moments before he was shot on Monday.

Detectives believe the meeting between the men and Michael Menzel, 48, at a home in Gleneagle in the Scenic Rim about 6am was planned and all five people knew each other.

Mr Menzel suffered a gunshot wound to his leg and died at the scene. His 13-year-old daughter watched as paramedics worked for an hour trying to save his life.

© Facebook Michael Menzel was fatally shot inside his house early on Monday morning. Forensic officers spent Monday examining the scene on Brittany Court in Gleneagle, about 55 kilometres south of Brisbane.

Police declared a second crime scene at nearby Henderson Street, where a burnt-out vehicle was found an hour after the shooting.

Detective Acting Inspector Kenneth Murray said it was unclear whether the vehicle found ablaze was the ute seen leaving the home on Brittany Court.

The four men concealed their identities and police were unsure whether the ute was stolen.

© Nine News Queensland The crime scene in Gleneagle where a homicide investigation is under way. Mr Menzel's daughter also lost her mother recently and is being supported by family.

"The family is devastated, the child was present during this crime, I can only imagine how she is dealing with this," Acting Inspector Murray said.

"The offenders seem to have some knowledge of the victim, it seems to be a planned event, it was not random."

A friend of Mr Menzel, who wished to remain anonymous, said she was shocked by the events on "this crazy day".

"Michael would take his shirt off his back if someone needed it, [he] was a dear friend that I will never forget," she said.

"He was always there if I needed him and cooked the best birthday cakes for everyone who needed one, all the children got a special cake from him.

"He was an awesome chef and always working hard as a father. We all love him dearly."

Mr Menzel's housemate, a 40-year-old man, was hit on the head with a hammer during the home invasion and suffered minor injuries.
