Fortescue Metals Group confirmed the worker fell ill on Saturday and was quarantined in the medical clinic at the mine site.

The female FIFO employee was taken to Port Hedland Hospital, by the Royal Flying Doctors Service, where she remains.

FMG staff were alerted to the measles diagnosis on Sunday.

Those who had been at Perth Airport, Cloudbreak Airport and the Christmas Creek mine site between the 2nd and 12th of October are most at risk.

A chartered Qantas flight from Cloudbreak airport was delayed today, and 9News understands airline staff were only made aware of the measles case when they landed in the Pilbara and were seeking medical advice.

"Fortescue knew about this several days ago and haven't informed their contractors, didn't inform Qantas and they sent a crew up there, our members and they found out on the site," Tim Dawson from the Transport Workers Union said.

In a statement, Fortescue said it's working with the Health Department to limit the spread of the infection. "The mining company has been very prompt and very responsive to taking public health action and we're very happy with the way that they've been working with the health department," Dr Donna Mack from WA health said.

Four people have contracted measles in the past week, bringing the total number of confirmed cases since the initial outbreak on September 30 to 22 people.

The WA Health Department says this latest case in the Pilbara is connected to the initial Rockingham outbreak and they will now be offering free vaccines to workers arriving on the Christmas Creek site.

The advice to everyone is to check vaccinations are up to date and be on alert for symptoms like rash and fever.
