A man accused of killing Sydney schoolgirl Quanne Diec says the wheelie bin alleged to have contained her body was actually full of guns and cocaine.

Vinzent Tarantino, 52, took the stand today at his murder trial in the NSW Supreme Court.

He has pleaded not guilty to murdering the 12-year-old, who disappeared after she left her Granville home to walk to school in 1998.

"With all respect to the family there never was... no that's farcical that she said that," he told the court today.

Instead, he said inside the bin was three guns hidden in PVC pipes and some cocaine in a Tupperware container, which he buried then later retrieved.

He also denied telling Ms Faily that he had suffocated the girl because she was making too much noise and that he had raped her.

Tarantino also made admissions to police in 2016 but said he did that because he was terrified the Rebels bikies were after him.

Today he told the court he was terrified of retribution after being the first on the scene of the Black Market Cafe murders in 1997.

"I was caught in the middle of the whole thing," he said.

Tarantino was repeatedly interrupted and directed to answer the questions asked, on one occasion after he complained of not getting enough sleep at Parklea Prison.

The trial continues.
