She also pointed out that the planned date clashed with the final scheduled sitting day of federal parliament in Canberra, one of the building's busiest days where MPs are regularly required to sit late to deal with last-minute legislation before the parliament winds up for the year.

The charity match is being organised by the Commonwealth secretary-general, Baroness Scotland, and the South Australian Cricket Association. This fantastic event will demonstrate how sport can be a tool for connecting people across religions, cultures, races and regions while raising funds through a registered charity to roll out sport for development and peace in the Commonwealth, particularly in those areas affected by conflict and violence.

“Peace at the Crease draws on Commonwealth cricket connections to utilise sport for development and peace - a longstanding priority of our 53-member family of nations.”

British MP Kate Hoey, a former sports minister and parliamentary commonwealth executive said the Baroness’ disrespectful treatment of Autralia was more evidence of her dictatorial behaviour in the top job.

Ms Hoey, who is a former colleague of Baroness Scotland, added: “This is unacceptable behaviour by Baroness Scotland and shows disrespect for Australia and normal conventions of politeness.”

“It adds to the widely held view that the Commonwealth Secretary General has become dictatorial in her role and should not be reappointed to the job”.

A spokesperson for Senator Payne said: "The Foreign Minister will not be commenting on leaked correspondence".
