A former Playboy model caught with drugs during a traffic stop has tried to blame her bikie ex-boyfriend for getting her involved in using illicit substances.
Azzra Hughes, who now works as a model and high-end private waitress, walked away from court on Tuesday with a $1000 fine after being caught with ice, cocaine, and fantasy.
Police had been targeting Ms Hughes' white Range Rover after they received intelligence the car was being used for drug supply, the court was told, according to The Gold Coast Bulletin.
Sydney centre of Australia's cocaine use
The Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission has been testing sewage facilities for drugs, finding cocaine use is highest in Sydney.Drug testing of 52 sewage plants across Australia has found cocaine consumption is higher in New South Wales than anywhere else, particularly in Sydney.
The car was stopped by officers on July 3 just after 9pm at Helensavle on the Gold Coast where they conducted a roadside drug test.
The test returned a negative result but, based on the intelligence, the officers searched the vehicle.
The search found in the driver's side door 0.71g of ice and 0.811g of cocaine.
1.35g of the drug fantasy was also found in multiple vials inside the car.
Her defence lawyer, Campbell MacCallum, attributed Hughes becoming involved in drugs due to the influence of an ex-boyfriend.
After a previous appearance in court for drugs last year, Hughes travelled overseas to Canada and London where she worked as a model.
When she returned to the Gold Coast, her lawyer said she began a relationship with a man who introduced her to cocaine and fantasy.
Doping bans to be cut for 'street drugs'
Athletes who test positive to 'street drugs' on game day could see a major decrease in potential bans as part of new changes being brought forward by the World Anti-Doping Agency code.Former Collingwood young gun Sam Murray is one such player, with the former 'Pies star banned for 18 months after he tested positive to cocaine. The ex- Magpie is free to return to training after December 17 after being found with a banned substance in his system in August of 2018.
'Thankfully that relationship has ended. It would seem the target of this particular operation was (her former partner) as the primary target,' he said.
Hughes pleaded guilty to five charges including possession of dangerous drugs.
Magistrate Kay Philipson fined Hughes $1000 - taking into account she was three weeks into a drug rehabilitation program.
Hughes had no conviction recorded.
