The Suburu and a Mercedes SUV collided head-on on Old South Head Road at about 3;30 this afternoon.

The male driver fled the scene on foot.

He is described as Caucasian appearance, aged in his 40s, solid build, short dark coloured hair, and unshaven.

Police have confirmed the 46-year old female driver of the Mercedes was taken to St Vincent's Hospital in a stable condition with serious injuries.

The Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit are on scene conducting inquiries, and the driver's whereabouts remain unknown.

There are traffic delays in the area and drivers are advised to find an alternative route.

A 22-year-old Lalor Park man has been killed in a crash involving a ute in Blacktown, in Sydney's west.The rider, a 22-year-old man from Lalor Park died at the scene of the crash, which occurred about 8.30pm on Saturday at the intersection of Sunnyholt Road and Main Street in Blacktown.
