This is the heartwarming moment a koala named Kate was miraculously found alive after surviving a raging bushfire that decimated her forest home.

Kate was badly singed when a man, Darrel, stumbled across her on the ash-soaked grounds of Bellangry State Forrest, in Port Macquarie on NSW's mid north coast.

Darrell wrapped the frightened animal in a blanket and rushed her Koala Hospital in Port Macquarie where she was treated for burns to her hands, feet, and face.

Kate, who Darrel initially thought was male, can be seen drinking as he offers her water from a plastic cup.

'You're so badly singed aren't you,' he said.

The Koala Hospital praised Darrel for taking her from the burnt bushland.

'He may have got the sex wrong but he did the right thing by gently capturing her using a big blanket and bring her to us,' the Facebook post read.

'She arrived very dehydrated and is now in the 5 star service burns ward.'

They have set up a gofundme campaign to raise funds for medical equipment to help them nurture marsupials affected by the fires back to health.

'Fires south of Port Macquarie have recently devastated bushland which has a high number of breeding koalas in the area,' they wrote on the campaign page.

'This group of koalas is one of the most genetically diverse groups in Australia and is of enormous national significance.

'There are fears as many as 350 koalas have perished with approximately 75% of the fireground footprint being prime koala habitat.

The conservation group warned scammers were taking advantage of injured wild life by making fraudulent appeals on the money raising site using their name.

Kate's rescue comes as devastating bush fires rip through the country.

As of Thursday, more than 55 fires continue to burn in NSW and over 70 in Queensland.
