Mikayla Rae Cook, 23, and Tyler Lindsay, 19, kidnapped the man from his house in south Kalgoorlie, Western Australia in April.

They were allegedly helped by four accomplices who are yet to face court, reported the West Australian.

During a dispute in the house at 9.30am, Cook, who was high on meth, screamed at the man as he held a hatchet to defend himself.

The man dropped the hatchet before one of the accomplices charged at him and tackled him to the floor, Kalgoorlie District Court heard.

At the time of the kidnapping Cook was on bail for assaulting a police officer in August 2018.

She was jailed for six months for that attack in June.

Cook and Lindsay both pleaded guilty to detaining another with intent and assault occasioning bodily harm and were on Monday each jailed for 18 months.

Justice Stone described the crime as a 'very serious example of a kidnapping'.
