When quizzed about material found on the phone, which suggested he was being threatened, he did not offer an explanation.

This included a screenshot of a Snapchat message that had been sent to Mr Zdradkovic's partner by a friend.

It showed a female TV newsreader alongside a message about a hit squad targetting the family.

"Police seized my phone and went through my phone and saw all that, I did not give it to them," he said.

"What message are you sending?" he asked Mr Zdradkovic.

"No message," Mr Zdradkovic replied.

Mr Zdradkovic did admit installing barbed wire along his back fence in the time leading up to the attack, but he told the court the neighbour's dogs like to jump the fence and he wanted to keep them out.
