Police allege Mr Gliddon rolled the car after smashing into another vehicle on Thompson Road in Bell Park, with his 41-year-old father Michael, flung through the air.

Mr Gliddon left his dad dying on the side of the road and ran away, investigators allege.

Family members of the accused interjected throughout today's brief hearing, threatening "legal action" after widespread media coverage of the case.

Mr Gliddon's lawyer told the Geelong Magistrates' Court he had a possible diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder and had also been in "adult custody" before.

She said he had not yet been formally interviewed by officers, after he was discharged from hospital and brought to a police station.

She said this was because of the accused's young age, his possible autism and the fact his mental health might be impacted by media coverage.

According to police, Mr Gliddon has been charged with culpable driving causing death, dangerous driving causing death and failing to render assistance after a fatal collision.

His lawyer made no application for bail, with the case to set to return to court on March 6.
