Emergency services were called to Jack Evans Boat Harbour Park, Tweed Heads just before midday on Friday after a couple walking their dog discovered a dead man in a sleeping bag.The dead man has since been identified as a 56-year-old who was believed to be sleeping in the park.A crime scene was set up and the NSW Police State Crime Command's Homicide Squad was called in to investigate.Just after 3pm yesterday, a 34-year-old man was arrested as he got off a bus at Wharf Street, Tweed Heads.

A man has been charged with attempted murder following an alleged brutal attack on an 84-year-old woman at a retirement village on Sydney's upper north shore last month.

The woman, identified by police as Patricia, was found with multiple serious injuries and lacerations to her face, chest and arm after emergency services were called to her unit on Bobbin Head Road in North Turramurra about 12.30pm on November 16.

Police were told Patricia had arrived home to find an unknown man in her bedroom, and that he attacked her before fleeing out the front door.

Patricia was taken to Sydney Adventist Hospital by ambulance, and is now undergoing rehabilitation for her injuries.

Detectives from Ku-ring-gai Police Area Command established Strike Force Calculus to investigate the incident, and along with Patricia's daughter Caroline, made a public plea for help to find the assailant.

"We are absolutely outraged, appalled... I appeal for the person or anyone who knows him to come forward," Caroline said at the time.

About 3pm on Wednesday, strike force detectives arrested a 43-year-old man, from Orange in central western NSW, following a vehicle stop on the Pacific Highway at Wahroonga.

Officers also conducted searches at a hotel on Pyrmont Street in Pyrmont, and a house on Jindalee Avenue in Orange, seizing clothing and jewellery.

The man was taken to Hornsby Police Station and charged with a number of offences including attempted murder and aggravated break-and-enter.

He was also charged over a separate alleged aggravated break-and-enter in Cromer the day before the alleged assault.

He was refused bail to appear at Hornsby Local Court on Thursday.
