But Liberal senator Amanda Stoker defended Mr Taylor, saying Labor has spent the last two weeks throwing "mud and muck" at a good person in an effort to distract from the fact it doesn't know what it stands for.

"They are at war with themselves over their future direction and they will do anything to avoid having to reveal what they actually stand for," she said.
