The 24-year-old, from Adelaide, confirmed she is planning a wedding after Venezuelan girlfriend Joli, 29, proposed to her behind bars last month.

'She stole my heart. We are very happy together and if time allows us, we will be with each other for many years,' she told New Idea.

The upcoming nuptials come nine months after the two struck up a romance while serving time at El Buen Pastor women's prison in Bogota, Colombia.

Sainsbury was sentenced to six years in jail after she was found guilty of trying to smuggle 6kg of cocaine out of the country in April 2017.

Sainsbury faced a possible 30-year sentence for the drug smuggling but was eventually sentenced to six years in prison as art of a plea deal.

She was caught trying to fly out of Bogota's El Dorado International Airport in April with 5.8kg of cocaine stuffed into 18 headphones hidden in her luggage after a tip-off from the US Drug Enforcement Agency.

Earlier this year her lawyer Orlando Herran told News Corp Australia the former brothel worker and failed business owner has matured into a respected member of the prison who now has a different perspective on life.

She also looks much healthier after losing lots of weight, takes exercise seriously and has since adapted to Colombian food.

Despite her transformation, Sainsbury is extremely lonely and misses her family, especially her mum and stepdad who she speaks a lot about, her lawyer added.
