  Man shot in leg in Sydney NYE carjacking © AAP Image/David Moir A man has been shot in the leg in a southwest Sydney carjacking after the two alleged culprits crashed a stolen Mercedes Benz and fled on foot in search of another vehicle.

Police say the two suspects, a man and woman, were on Tuesday afternoon travelling in the stolen Mercedes on the M5 at Riverwood when they crashed on the Belmore Road off-ramp and drove through a fence into Rotary Park.

The two occupants then fled on foot, approached a nearby parked Kia vehicle and threatened its occupant with a gun. The man refused to leave the vehicle and was shot in the leg and pushed out of the car, police say.

The pair then drove off. They are yet to be arrested.

The 26-year-old man was treated by paramedics and taken to St George Hospital in a stable condition.
