A man has been charged with attempted murder after a teenage girl was strangled and lost consciousness before she broke free and escaped in the Brisbane suburb of Inala.

Police will allege the man and the 17-year-old girl, known to each other, were talking in an Inala Street about 9.10 pm on Tuesday when the girl was attacked.

The woman was allegedly strangled and lost consciousness several times before she finally managed to break free and run to a nearby house for help.

Police arrived on scene and arrested a 21-year-old Inala man in the area.

He has been charged with 13 offences including attempted murder, eight counts of strangulation (domestic violence offence), two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count each of deprivation of liberty and contravention of a domestic violence order.

He is due to appear in Richlands Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

The girl was taken to hospital for treatment with non-life-threatening injuries.
