A teenager has been charged with murdering a 71-year-old grandmother in Perth's east.

Police allege the boy, who was aged 17 at the time, broke into Odette Feige's Swan View home and assaulted her before ransacking the house and stealing her 2005 Hyundai Tucson on October 31 last year.

Ms Feige was rushed to hospital, but died four weeks later on November 29.

The teenager faced Perth Children's Court today charged with Ms Feige's murder.

The now 18-year-old was not required to enter a plea and the court was told he has other matters listed.

He is currently refused bail for the other matters and the court was told there is an application to have him moved to an adult jail due to his age.

According to a death notice, Ms Feige and her late husband Bruce "worked long and diligently" for the welfare of Vietnam veterans.

The accused is next due to face court on February 19.
