About 1.30pm on Sunday an off-duty police officer saw an allegedly stolen silver Holden Commodore driving along Nambour Connection Road towards Yandina.

Police said officers followed the car onto the Bruce Highway and onto a dirt track between the highway and Nambour Connection Road at Kulangoor.

After cops got a call about a man trying to break into cars , they spotted Isaiah John Gellaty lying down in the front seat of a 1998 Honda Accord.

Officers confronted the driver on the track and it is alleged he reversed into the passenger side of a marked police dog squad car three times before speeding forward to try to escape.

However, the Commodore became stuck in the mud and despite numerous efforts to reverse out, the car was well and truly bogged.

The driver refused to get out of the car, leading to officers pulling him out and arresting him.

The 30-year-old man has been charged with a string of serious offences including stealing, unlawful use of motor vehicle, driving a motor vehicle without a driver licence, receiving tainted property, obstructing police officers, dangerous operation of vehicle and wilful damage.

He appeared in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday.
