Seven people have been taken to hospital, while more than 20 others were being assessed at the scene, police said.

Some of the injured have been flown to hospital by helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft.

One high school-aged girl was driven by ambulance to Mount Gambier hospital in a stable condition with upper-body injuries, Ambulance Victoria said.

The condition of the others injured in the crash is not known.

Images from the scene show the bus that rolled belonged to Adelaide's Scotch College.

The ABC understands the bus was transporting students attending a rowing camp.

According to the VicEmergency website, four vehicles are responding to the incident.

VicRoads is reporting that the Portland-Nelson Road is closed in both directions west of the Glenelg River bridge.
