The 15-year-old was walking along Main Street and reached Pompei’s Landing park before being approached by five unknown young people at about 2.30pm on Saturday.

One of the youths demanded the victim's jacket, police said, before punching him in the head repeatedly.

Another male then pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim before all five fled south under the park tunnel, towards Park Street.

Police confirmed the 15-year-old boy was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Moorabbin Crime Investigation Unit are now looking for witnesses to the stabbing.

The boy who stabbed the victim is believed to be Caucasian, approximately 15-years-old, and around 170 centimetres tall. He was wearing a camouflage jacket and black and white Oakland Raiders cap.

The second boy is perceived as being Caucasian, approximately 15-years-old, around 185 centimetres tall, with a thin build. He was wearing a white hooded top and black and red cap.

The third Caucasian male was wearing dark clothing and had a mask covering his face.

The young woman who attempted to take the victim’s jacket is perceived as being Caucasian with a thin build, a stomach piercing, long dyed purple and black hair and was wearing a white crop top.

A second girl is perceived as being Caucasian, approximately 15-years-old, with blonde hair and was wearing a grey hooded jumper and leggings.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or with CCTV or dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 33 000 or submit a confidential report on www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
