A Camillo grandmother has apologised for a shocking attack on a teenage umpire during a junior football match in Perth’s south east.

Charmaine Judith Wright, 46, has been given a life ban and fined more than $3000 after an all-in brawl at a kids’ football game at the Tom Bateman Sporting Complex in May.

Ms Wright admitted in an Armadale court on Monday to the vicious attack on the 13-year-old umpire during the under 11s match between Thornlie and Maddington.

The court heard spectators watched in horror as the grandmother tackled the teenager and put him in a headlock, with an onlooker shouting, “Oi..stop it..stop it..leave the umpire alone..oh my god”.

The court was told a red card sparked the all-in brawl after Wright hurled abuse at the teenage umpire.

The whole incident was filmed and in the footage Wright can be heard yelling, “mate you are clearly biased toward the other team ... you should not be f------ umpiring.”

Wright told the Magistrate she was trying to get her grandson off the field when she overreacted.

The teenage umpire suffered a grazed cheek and eye, his parents said they didn’t believe Wright was remorseful for what she did.

The young boy's parents described the attack as ruthless and heartless, with their son too traumatised to umpire this season.

The Football Commission said the fine concluded a really disappointing incident for WA football.

The junior division now escorts umpires onto the field when necessary.
