A 56 -year-old man has died after being struck by a car in Inverclyde. The man was crossing Inverkip Street, Greenock, when he was hit by a southbound The driver was uninjured. Emergency services were called the Princes Highway, near O'Briens Road at Figtree, south of Wollongong, where the local man had been struck around 9:30pm on Thursday.

The 56-year-old died at the scene.

"Obviously it's very traumatic," Acting Wollongong Police Inspector Sam Perfrement said.

"From initial reports he wasn't in middle of the road and we believe that he was with some other people at the time.

SCRANTON -- A man who was hit by a vehicle in Scranton has died . Jerome Shaw, 56 , of Scranton died in the hospital on Monday, according to the Lackawanna County coroner. Shaw was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Court Street and North Main Avenue on December 7, the coroner said.

"The movements in relation to the pedestrian prior to the accident are still continuing and that's something that will form part of the investigation."

Alcohol test negative

The 25-year-old male driver was taken for mandatory drug and alcohol tests.

"The results in relation to alcohol have returned, and it was a negative test in relation to that," Acting Inspector Perfrement said.

Southbound lanes of the highway were cordoned off and police established a crime scene in the area to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Detectives have appealed for anybody who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage of the crash to contact police.

The driver is assisting police with their enquiries.

Second road death

It is the second road fatality in the Illawarra region this week.

A 16-year-old boy was killed when he was hit by a car while riding his pushbike in Shellharbour on Wednesday.

"The obvious message is for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists to remain vigilant and take care on the roads," Acting Inspector Perfrement said.

No charges have been laid in relation to either incident.
