Police are searching for a man who assaulted a 19-year-old woman walking from Windsor train station in Brisbane's north on Friday night.

The woman was approached from behind just before 10pm on Bonython Street, about 700 metres from the station, with the man placing his forearm over her face.

As she screamed and tried to escape, the man wounded her on the hip with an unknown object before pushing her to the ground, police said.

The man then fled on foot towards Hadfield Street.

The woman was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital from a nearby address with wounds to her hip, a swollen forearm and a bruised knee.

Anyone who may have witnessed suspicious behaviour or seen the man running is urged to contact Policelink on 13 14 44 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
