  Former WA treasurer Troy Buswell charged with aggravated assault of woman Former WA treasurer and leader of the opposition Troy Buswell is due to face court next month charged with six aggravated assault charges against a woman and one count of unlawful damage. Mr Buswell, 53, is facing three counts of aggravated assault occasioning bodily harm and three counts of aggravated common assault.It will be alleged the offences occurred over four years between 2015 and 2019.Mr Buswell was charged after an investigation by the Cold Case Serious Crime Squad.It is understood Mr Buswell and the alleged victim are known to each other.

Counter-terrorism officers have charged a woman from Melbourne's south-east after she allegedly encouraged and supported a person in their bid to fight for the Islamic State terrorist organisation.

In a statement, the AFP and Victoria Police said they would allege the 22-year-old Hallam woman formed an online association with an Australian male fighter and member of Islamic State in Syria to offer support in 2015.

The Victorian Joint Counter Terrorism Team (JCTT) will also allege "the accused encouraged and attempted to facilitate the travel of a person seeking to fight with Islamic State (IS) in Syria and Iraq in 2016", the statement said.

The statement said officers had not identified any current or impending threat to the community.

The woman, identified at court as Hadashaha S'Adat Khan, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Performing services for a person who is intending to enter a foreign country to engage in hostile activity
  • Recruiting a person to participate in the activities of a terrorist organisation
  • Associating with a terrorist organisation

She is due to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court this afternoon.

The maximum penalty associated with the offences includes life imprisonment.
