A cannabis crop worth more than $6 million has been uncovered during a raid on a remote property in rural western NSW.

Police raided the 8000-hectare property north of Cobar on Tuesday afternoon, seizing more than 3000 cannabis plants.

A 34-year-old man has been charged with cultivating commercial quantities of a prohibited drug and possessing an unauthorised firearm.

Drug squad commander Detective Superintendent John Watson on Wednesday said it was among the largest cannabis busts police have made in the past three years.

"This property stretched over (8000 hectares) and was a dedicated plantation used solely for the purpose of large commercial cannabis cultivation and supply," Det Supt Watson said in a statement.

The 34-year-old Griffith man is due to front Bourke Local Court on Wednesday.
