  Coronavirus cases in Victoria near 1,000 as Government announces $1.3 billion boost to health system The number of cases of coronavirus in Victoria has risen by 51 overnight as the Premier announces more than $1 billion in extra funding to help the health system tackle the pandemic. Mr Andrews said 32 people were in Victorian hospitals with COVID-19, including six in intensive care.Community transmissions have increased to 39 and about 47,000 tests had been carried out in the state.Mr Andrews said the additional funding was to ensure Victoria had "the critical care capacity, the beds, the gowns, the masks, the ventilators, all the equipment, so that we have the capacity to treat many thousands of patients".

A woman in her 80s has become the 12th person to die of coronavirus in Victoria.

Premier Daniel Andrews confirmed the death in an interview on Triple M radio this morning.

The state has 21 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the state's total to 1212.

There were 101 confirmed cases that may indicate community transmission, 45 people in Victorian hospitals, including nine in intensive care units.

"The key point is that we are getting some stability in these numbers," Mr Andrews said.

"That means the things people are doing, the sacrifices they are making, staying at home and doing the right thing … we are buying ourselves some time."

Health Minister Jenny Mikakos on Twitter said the woman died in hospital.

"My thoughts are with her family," she said.

Mr Andrews urged Victorians to stay home this Easter weekend.

"It's a special time for families, it's a long weekend but it cannot be a holiday," Mr Andrews said.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has announced a $500 million package to assist landlords and tenants during the coronavirus pandemic. The package will include $420 million in land tax relief for landlords involved in a mediation process while $80 million will go towards rental assistance for Victorians who meet certain criteria.Mr Andrews said the number of confirmed coronavirus cases had increased by eight since yesterday to 1,299 but the death toll remained at 14.He said 21 people were in hospital with a further 18 in intensive care.More to come.
