On May 2, Flight Centre stopped charging its cancellation fees of $300 per person for a refund on an international flight, and $50 for a domestic flight.

But Mr Wendel said he was fed up trying to contact Flight Centre.

"You can't get through to any of them now," he said.

"I could use the money and go for a couple of nights in Darwin and go for lunch and dinner."

In relation to Mr Wendel's case, Flight Centre said in a statement that a refund would be "paid shortly".

"Ideally by the end of this week," the statement said.

"We acknowledge that he has had to wait for quite some time for his refund, and we do sincerely apologise for the delay.

"We have been advising our customers that we do have significant delays due to the volume of refunds we are processing and that it may take around 12 weeks, however, the refund has cleared into our account from Jetstar."
