  Daniel Andrews' govt 'taking right action' to stop COVID-19 spread Shadow Minister for Housing Jason Clare says Daniel Andrews' state government “is taking the right action” to protect Victorians against COVID-19. Last week Premier Daniel Andrews reimposed restrictions on Victorians after the state confirmed a two-month high of cases. Public gatherings - excluding restaurants and cafes - will be restricted to 10 people and will remain in place until July 12, pending a review. Plans to increase the number of patrons from 20 to 50 at pubs, restaurants and cafes will also be deferred to the July 12 date.

More than 1000 Defence Force personnel will today be deployed throughout Victoria following a request from the Andrews government to assist with curbing the

Defence Minister Linda Reynolds announced this morning that more than 1000 troops were being deployed to Victoria to help enforce its hotel quarantine policy. But in the hours since, Mr Andrews has withdrawn that request and adjusted the scope.

Hundreds of personnel will be deployed across Victoria to help in the fight against the coronavirus.

Premier Daniel Andrews requested assistance from the Prime Minister on Monday after the state recorded 75 new infections in the past 24 hours.

A large portion of the 800 personnel will be directed to community engagement and door knocking in hotspot suburbs, while the remainder will assist at testing sites and with contract tracing.

The Andrews government considered reinstating targeted lockdowns but Deputy Chief Medical Officer Professor Michael Kidd said it would be very difficult to implement in a metropolitan city like Melbourne.

Johnson and Katoa once again put on a clinic .
The Sharks have put on a clinic after a 40-22 win over a Manly side that had no Dylan Walker and no Tom Trbojevic. The halves Shaun Johnson and Chad Townsend tallied five try assists with two for Johnson and three for Townsend. Once again Sione Katoa was at his try-scoring best with two, which took his total to eight tries for the season. Katoa is currently second on the try-scoring list for 2020 with Cowboys winger Kyle Feldt leading by one try. And Johnson is now top of the try-assist list with ten and the next best being Roosters five-eighth Luke Keary with eight.
