South Australia's Education Department has confirmed a temporary teacher who has been charged with possessing child exploitation material has worked at seven schools, but has now been stood down.

The Adelaide man, aged in his 30s, was arrested and charged with one count count of possessing child exploitation material, and a second aggravated count.

In a letter to parents, Vale Park Primary School confirmed the teacher worked there between 2013 and 2015.

"I'm not permitted to name the temporary teacher until such time as they have appeared in court," principal Fione Love wrote to parents.

"SAPOL (SA Police) has notified the department that a temporary teacher has been arrested and charged with possessing child exploitation materials," a department spokesperson said.

"Their authority to teach has been removed. Parents have been informed at seven schools in line with Debelle protocols.

"As the matter is before the courts no further information can be provided at this time."

The man received police bail and will face the Adelaide Magistrates Court on August 31.

Police said investigations were continuing and have asked anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The man's arrest comes just days after a teacher at Adelaide High School was arrested and charged with aggravated indecent assault.
