A 43-year-old man is under police guard in hospital after a woman's body was found on a rural property in South Gippsland overnight.

Police found the woman around 2.30am on a property in Hedley, about 90km south of Moe near the South Gippsland coast.

The man under police watch was involved in a car crash earlier in the night in the Hedley area, according to a Victoria police spokeswoman.

Although the woman is yet to be formally identified, both people are believed to be known to each other.

A coroner in Malaysia inspected a resort and nearby jungle Thursday ahead of an inquest into the death of a Franco-Irish teenager during a family holiday there last year. On Thursday, the coroner, prosecutors and the family's lawyer, under police escort, inspected the resort and the area where her body was found in the town of Seremban, Negeri Sembilan state, 63 kilometres (39 miles) south of Kuala Lumpur. "The coroner took the opportunity to visit the place where the victim stayed and where the body of Nora was found,” Negeri Sembilan deputy police chief Che Zakaria Othman told reporters after the three-hour tour.
